Major Scale
The fundamental pattern of Western music: W-W-H-W-W-W-H.
The Formula
Every Major scale is built using the same sequence of intervals between notes: Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half.
Building from C
Starting on C, this pattern naturally falls on all white keys of the piano. C to D is a Whole step, E to F is a Half step, and B to C is the final Half step.
Applying the Pattern
The beauty of this formula is that it works starting on ANY note. If you start on G, you must sharpen the F to F# to preserve the interval pattern.
Key Discovery
The W-W-H-W-W-W-H pattern is your master key to all Major scales. Once you internalize this sequence, you can build any Major scale from any starting note. Ready to transpose this pattern across the keyboard?
